About the Office

The County Judge presides over a five-member commissioners court which has budgetary and administrative authority over county government operations.  The judge serves as member of county election board to perform a variety of responsibilities associated with holding of elections.  As budget officer assisted by County Auditor and County Clerk, the judge maintains the county's expenditures and shows financial reports at each regular meeting of commissioners court.  Also, he has specific responsibilities for setting and receiving bond or sureties for certain county officials and other persons.

The County Judge has judicial responsibility for certain criminal, civil and probate matters.  The judge has appellate jurisdiction over matters arising from the justice courts.
